Fashion Week Trends

Published by pinkplatypus at 9:38 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Fresh off fashion week in New York the trends for Spring 2009 have emerged. The 80’s, Great Gatsby, Grecian Goddess, Arabian Princess, and the Sporty look. The thought of the 80’s style making a comeback may make you want to cringe (thats the effect it has on me). The 80’s is an era in fashion that I think (or thought) was best forgotten, but the new designers like Alexander Wang and Proenza Schouler are bringing back torn up lace, ripped jeans, shoulder pads, and leggings. Who hasn’t read Gatsby and dreamed of living a life as glamorous as Gatsby and Daisy well now you can, well maybe not but you can wear a flapper dress. The Grecian Goddess look seems to keep popping up, its easy, always chic, and looks good on everyone. The Arabian Princess look is kind of a play off the Goddess look just more fabric, this seems like too much fabric for the average woman and is best suited for the model body type. And of course the sporty look, the sporty clothes that look like you are going to the gym but aren’t actually designed for the gym. I am not a fan, it brings back memories of the equestrian look, people wearing riding britches out to lunch when they had never nor did they plan to ever ride a horse. One of the hardest things to do is to take runway fashions and make them wearable for an affordable price. For the eighties look a pair of leggings or skinny jeans paired with a party top and blazer with big shoulder pads is a fun going out outfit. Leggings are buy 1 get one 50% off at Express right now and they also have really nice jeans, but if you hurry you can get skinny jeans for $19 at Oldnavy before the sale ends on the 12th. Oldnavy jeans have a really nice fit and look a lot pricer than what they are. The best place to find a great blazer with oversized shoulder pads is at Goodwill, Salvation Army, or any local thrift store. Goodwill and Salvation Army usually have better prices but thrift stores might have a better selection and will require less searching on your part. Pick up an old blazer and update it by getting it tailored. Another way to get Express clothes cheaper is to sign up for emails on the website and sign up for the mailing list, I seem to never run out of Express coupons since the recession hit. Express is also the spot for the Gatsby look, they have a flapper style top that paired with jeans is great for the club. One Grecian Goddess look is the maxi dress for cheap options there is Express, Oldnavy, and H&M, if you are willing to spend a little more BCBG has the best selection and the fabric is awesome you can get BCBG at a discount from bluefly.com. The Arabian Princess look does not seem to be al that flattering but H&M has some nice options. And as for the sporty look go to Dick’s and actually go to the gym (I do however love the tennis dress)! And when searching for the best deal do not forget about Burlington Coat Factory, TJMaxx, ROSS, Marshalls, Loehmans, etc…
